Award-winning journalist and New York Times best-selling author Shanna Hogan tells the true story of a young Marine wife whose illicit affair ended in tragedy.Â
In June 2014, 19-year-old Erin Corwin was living a quiet life in Twentynine Palms, California, expecting her first child with her husband, US Marine Corporal Jon Corwin - until the day she drove off into the desert and never returned. As temperatures climbed into the hundreds, friends and family teamed up with local law enforcement in a grueling search of Joshua Tree National Park. Nearly two months after her disappearance, Corwin's body was found at the bottom of an abandoned mine shaft, a homemade garrote wrapped around her throat. Â
Detectives quickly turned their attention to the Corwins' next-door neighbors fellow Marine Christopher Lee and his wife. The couples had leaned on each other for support, but it soon became clear that Chris and Erin's relationship had developed into a whirlwind romance that consumed them both and left the paternity of Corwin's baby in question. Lee told investigators he'd gone out hunting the day of Corwin's disappearance, but his claims of innocence soon began to crumble. And while Corwin was researching baby names, Lee was reportedly searching the internet for ways to dispose of a human body. Â
Through interviews, court records, and extensive research, best-selling true-crime author Shanna Hogan constructs a chilling story of betrayal, deception, and tragedy.

- I ordinarily don't buy new releases but I really wanted to read this book! Shanna Hogan writes very well, reminiscent of the late great Ann Rule. The story flows so well and each chapter ends with something ominous, practically keeping you from putting the book down. It's a tragic story told with a journalistic approach not putting any of herself in the narration as some crime authors are wont to do. I highly recommend this to my fellow true crime readers
- This was a well researched book and a heartbreaking story. This was an interesting read and one of the best true crime books I have read in a long time.
- Normally I don't read true crime. Now, after reading Shanna Hogan's " Secrets of a Marine's Wife A True Story of Marriage, Obsession, and Murder," I'm hooked. I look forward to reading more of her work. From the first sentence I was engaged with the story and descriptions she wove throughout this sad tale. Her research is impeccable as she takes the reader through each detail of Erin's demise. I was drawn to the story as it unfolded human frailty one sentence at a time. And excellent read.
- I love true crime and this book was very good. The story moved right along (read in two days), would have loved to reach in the story though and smack the arrogance out of Chris Lee and his wife 🤬
- I've read and enjoyed the author's previous books but this one really seems to be lacking substance. Many things were repeated in various places of the book and I thought that was poor editing, or it was added to fill up space.
- Ms. Hogan does an excellent job telling the sad sad but True story of Erin Corwin. This book is a page tuner.
- I’ve read all of Ms Hogan’s books. She does thorough research and presents the facts in a complete and interesting way. Even though she repeatedly indicates she didn’t want to write this book, I’m so glad she did. Looking forward to her next book whenever that is.
- This book was interesting from beginning to end. Keeps just the right amount of detail leaving the reader anxious to read the next page.
